Bob
Gelman was swept off a borrowed surfboard at the age of 13 by
the wave of invading British music groups. In December 1963, the
Beatles appeared on the Jack Paar TV show and his life course
was forever altered. That course led him to take up rock drumming,
which he was teaching to others within three months.
He soon met Curt
Houle and the Peterson brothers and left his "surf"
band to join the Clef
Dwellers. This band evolved into the Stayns
over a period of about five years, after which Bob left to lead
his own progressive-rock band (Aurora) and start his own
record label (Torch Song Records).
During the next 15+
years, Bob continued to perform and do studio work in Los Angeles
and San Francisco as a producer and percussionist after completing
his Business Administration studies with a Music Minor at California
State University at Northridge, and UCLA.
He
has been a successful business-to-business marketing consultant
as well as founder/organizer of a number of ongoing arts/entertainment
technology-focused festivals (CyberArts,
Burning Man,
Digital Be-In).
His work has included collaborations with members of Steppenwolf,
Little Feat, Cirque
du Soleil, Thomas
Dolby, Todd
Rundgren, and others.
In 2000, Bob reconnected
with Curt and began a new collaboration that has resulted in the
development of this site. For more about Bob, you can meet him
professionally here,
